Out With The Old, And Stay Out

How Can We Continue To Stand Complacent?

According to the Encarta Dictionary, the definition of delusional is “a persistent false belief held in the face of strong contradictory evidence, especially as a symptom of psychiatric disorder.” In regards to education, it is through logical thinking, the reasoning faculties of the intellect, and scientific evidence unto which I may conclude the best way to conduct education of all kinds. If I may say so without being overtly pretentious, Socrates would gladly agree with me.

Sexism more rampant than racism

7/24/2008 7:42:29 AM PST by Edith Piaf

Katie Couric has revealed she and Sen. Hillary Clinton are victims of sexism, which is more common in the country than racism.

While talking about her struggle succeeding as a news anchor, Couric told Israeli newspaper Haaretz that sexism is more prevalent than racism.

Today, the House armed services committee is meeting to review "don't ask, don't tell", the controversial policy banning gays in the US military. This is the first time the House of Representatives has reviewed the legislation since Bill Clinton enacted it in 1993. American Veterans for Equal Rights and GLBT groups, such as the Human Rights Campaign and the Servicemembers Legal Defence Network, have long called for the repeal of "don't ask, don't tell". Now, after nearly 15 years, Congress is beginning to address the question of whether the policy is a good one.

Note: This is the first part in a series of articles trying to shed some light on the inscrutable business practices at Countrywide Financial Corporation. Countrywide does not bear the entire responsibility for the Mortgage Market collapse and subsequent economic downturn but it played a part and that part needs to be examined. Today’s article focuses on the lax lending standards at Countrywide.

Death and Taxes

 Taxation without representation

Death and taxes a fun little pun, but do we need to accept this? There is no way around death. However, taxes may remain with us but does that mean a need to continue paying absurd amounts. I think not.

 IRAN'S WARNING

An aide to Iran's Supreme Leader was quoted as saying on Tuesday the Islamic Republic would hit Tel Aviv, U.S. shipping in the Gulf and U.S. interests around the world if it was attacked over its nuclear activities.

State Press TV said the "highly advanced" missiles tested by the Guards included a "new" Shahab 3 missile, which officials have said could reach targets 2,000 km (1,250 miles) away.

I'm not Mexican

7/15/2008 10:18:52 PM PST by Gloria Galles

We are different but the same.

Do you know how to make tacos? That was one of the question's my future husband asked me during our brief internet courtship. My response was, “I’m not Mexican".

So why is it most people that are not of Hispanic heritage (and some that are) think if you are of Spanish descent you make taco's or for that fact even like tacos.

Why Lesbians Should Not Get Married

7/15/2008 7:24:03 AM PST by Marion L. Head

The recent California Supreme Court ruling that allows same sex marriages in California has been widely lauded as a major step forward in civil rights for gays and lesbians. Many homosexuals can’t wait for the opportunity to go to California and tie the knot, and many gay “celebrities” have come out announcing their intentions to wed. But lesbians should reject the notion of marriage sanctified by the state, any state.

Democracy in the Middle East

7/14/2008 7:59:10 AM PST by Edna Yaghi

Think about what the term democracy means to you and then just imagine how unattainable it is to people living in the Middle East.

The word democracy in English is derived from the Greek word demos which means people, and the word kratia which means authority. Hence, a democracy is a rule by the people as opposed to an oligarchy or monarchy.

George Bush will be in Beijing for the opening ceremonies of the Olympics and this is a good thing for the United States.

President Bush announced recently that he will be attending the opening games of the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. This was an uncommonly wise move by George.

There are questions surrounding China’s Human Rights record in Tibet and the Sudan. These are serious issues which need to be investigated and addressed. However, under no circumstances, should the United States be making a statement at the Olympic Games regarding these actions.

Do you believe that same-sex marriage effects are underestimated?

Living in America where it is the land of the free home of the brave, there is one subject that is very sensitive yet it must be addressed; gay’s impact on marriage. Those in favor of the same-sex marriage underestimate its damage severely. I do not agree with the reporter when he says that gay marriages mean civil unions are working fine. How could this be true because a marriage is a union between a man and a woman, not same-sex.

(CNN) -- The investigation into the strangulation death of a man held in solitary confinement at a Maryland jail has widened beyond the seven correctional officers who had access to him, a state government source familiar with the investigation told CNN Wednesday.

The probe now encompasses all Prince George's County Correctional Center personnel, the source said. The jail has 630 employees according to the county's Web site.

Ronnie White's death in solitary confinement on Sunday has been called a case of "vigilante justice" by Jack Johnson, the county's chief executive. White, 19, was accused of a killing a police officer by driving over him.

Barack Obama, whether or not he makes the Presidency, will make history as the first African American to come farther in his campaign that Rev. Jesse Jackson. Yet, does he have the right cultural background to thoroughly represent people of color?

Picture this; you are standing on your feet in Fenway Stadium awaiting the start of Game 7 or this year’s World Series. Your right hand is covering your heart and you can feel it begin to beat a bit quicker as you anticipate the following words, “Oh, say can you see by the dawn's early light…” but instead you hear the following, “Lift ev'ry voice and sing, Till earth and heaven ring”.

You turn to the neighbor next to you and share the same look of “Am I on crack or are the lyrics all off”.

Update: The sun will come out tomorrow

The Bush Administration has reversed course and is lifting a two year environmental impact analysis on Solar Power projects.

The Bush Administration has decided that a two year environmental impact analysis for Solar Power projects is not necessary.

Somehow this only adds to the incredulity for the original position. Given how this current Administration stays the course on so many things and their constant complaining about their opponents ‘flip-flops’ on issues it makes no sense that they would change their mind in only two days.
